This morning:
In a meeting regarded the first of its kind in history with a religious figure, during which H.E. received the Senate's highest medal, H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Alissa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, met with H.E. Mr. Pedro Rollán, the President of the Senate of Spain, at the Senate headquarters in the capital, Madrid.
The meeting included discussions on a number of topics of mutual interest.
The President of the Senate began the meeting by stating that the Senate is hosting today one of the most respected religious figures in the Islamic world. He praised the role played by the Muslim World League in clarifying the Islamic values that call for tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and the building of bridges among the peoples of the world on the basis of shared principles that laid the foundation for the international community. In this context, reference was made to the Charter of Makkah, whose principles have been highlighted at the United Nations, by religious leaders—Muslim and non-Muslim—and by international research centers.
The President of the Senate added that the city of Toledo played, in past centuries, the same civilizational role that the Muslim World League is undertaking today, reaffirming the importance of understanding religious particularities.
